Good luck Brendan Rodgers!

CAPE TOWN - So Brendan Rodgers has been unveiled as the new Liverpool FC coach and I'm slightly worried to be honest, but keeping the faith that the club has hired the best man for the job.

Liverpool fans would expect the club to bring in a big name coach, but it seems the Merseysiders have lost some allure over the past few years with the lack of accolades.

Liverpool is a club run by its fans and if Rodgers does not get the desired results, they could usher him out.

We all saw what happened to Roy Hodgson…

The former Swansea man joins the Reds after Kenny Dalglish was fired at the end of the season.

Rodgers comes to the club with great experience having worked under the likes of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and finishing a respectable 11th on the log in their first season in the Premier League.

The 39-year-old certainly has big shoes to fill despite his credentials.

Like all football fans, Liverpool supporters have expectations that their club should do well.

The club's best finish in recent years was second place in the 2008/09 season and the 18 times league champions have not been able to get back to that level since then.

I assume many fans are hoping Rodgers will bring new and fresh ideas to the club that could help them return to where they want to be.

The Northern Irishman is known for his attacking football which saw Swansea finish mid table.

This strategy might suit Liverpool's style of play and could even see Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani making a return to Anfield.

Club owner John Henry has made it clear they want to contest for the league.

"We do not expect miracles overnight nor should anyone else. But we firmly believe that the direction the club is heading in will lead to Premier League championships."

This shows that the club is desperate to win a league title something they last achieved in 1990.

Good luck Brendan Rodgers!
