CAPE TOWN - A Breede River Valley councillor in Bonnievale on Wednesday said they do not understand the motive for the murder of a six-year-old boy.

A memorial service for was held for Franklin Prins on Wednesday.

His body was found on the banks of the Breede River on Friday.

A 16-year-old boy accused of the murder has been taken to a place of safety while police investigate the case.

Local councillor Errol Vollenhoven said they would continue to assist the family.

"The family is holding up pretty well under the circumstances. They are getting help from our local women's league. We are very grateful for that type of support."

He added that there should be no feelings of hatred towards the accused and said they were both victims of their circumstances.
