Gauteng ANC slams secret succession meetings
The Gauteng ANC says action will be taken against members who are holding secret succession meetings.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng ANC on Monday said it will take action against anyone taking part in secret leadership caucus meetings.
According to the provincial branch, it has received complaints from members that national ANC leaders ordered them to take part in these discussions.
The ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) said its members should not discuss who they want to lead the organisation, before nominations open in October.
Gauteng ANC secretary David Makhura said they are investigating the matter.
"If it is NEC members [who are organising these secret meetings] we will report it to the secretary general [Gwede Mantashe] because they will be violating NEC decisions. If it is provincial members, we will take action."
Delegates will vote for a new ANC president at the party's national elective conference in Mangaung over December.
