Rape accused to be mentally evaluated
A boy accused of raping an eight-year-old girl will be sent for psychiatric evaluation.
JOHANNESBURG - A KwaZulu-Natal teenager who has been accused of raping an eight-year-old girl and gouging her eye out, will be sent for psychiatric evaluation before the case against him continues.
The 15-year-old, who is in the custody of his parents, appeared briefly in the Mtunzini Magistrate's Court on Friday.
It is alleged he dragged the girl into a sugarcane field and raped and assaulted her.
KZN National Prosecuting Authority's Natasha Ramkisson said, "The NPA have referred the accused to Fort Napier for a mental assessment. On 4 June we will have a date for the accused for admission to Fort Napier."
