Cele should be fired - report
The Bheki Cele inquiry says there is enough proof to show corruption, a leaked media report revealed.
PRETORIA - There is enough evidence to show corrupt activity in the Department of Public Works, the Bheki Cele commission of inquiry has found.
This was contained in a report leaked to the media.
According to the document, the inquiry also recommended that Cele be fired from his post as national police commissioner.
President Jacob Zuma appointed Judge Jakes Moloi to head the inquiry after Public Protector Thuli Madonsela found that officials acted improperly in the procurement of police headquarters.
On Sunday, Moloi handed over his findings to the president.
He allegedly revealed that there were sufficient guidelines in place to ensure fair and transparent processes.
Moloi said the Department of Public Works needs staff overhauls, because the rules of the game are clear and unambiguous.
The judge found that the department ignored rules and allowed itself to be manipulated, by Cele in particular.
It allowed the police commissioner to identify properties and negotiate prices.
The department has not yet responded to questions.
