JOHANNESBURG - The 2012 edition of Mandela Day will be bigger and better, the Nelson Mandela Foundation announced on Wednesday.

The initiative, which was launched three years ago, encourages South Africans to dedicate at least 67 minutes of their time to do good for others.

The event will take place on Madiba's birthday on July 18.

Various musicians and businesses vowed to make the 2012 edition one to remember.

Investec and South African Airways are among the organisations participating in the campaign.

They will help make a difference at disadvantaged communities and schools.

Musician Danny K challenged fellow artists to join in Mandela's birthday celebrations.

The announcement closed with a performance from hip hop artist ProVerb.

Radio and television personality Bonang Matheba also helped to paint two classrooms at a Soweto school.
