PRETORIA - The Limpopo Education Department has until the June 15 to deliver textbooks to pupils in the province.

On Thursday, the North Gauteng High Court ruled in favour of human rights group Section27.

Judge Jody Kollapen said failure to deliver textbooks is a violation of the basic right to education enshrined in the Constitution.

The department was also ordered to arrange an urgent catch up plan for learners.

The remedial plan must identify gaps in curriculum and how learning was affected by the lack of textbooks.

Section27 launched the urgent application against the Basic Education Department after it discovered that hundreds of pupils did not received their textbooks for the 2012 academic year.

Pupils in grade R-3 and grade 10 are affected.
