Taxi drivers protest in JHB CBD
The United Taxi Association Front is protesting against buses having exclusive use of special lanes.
JOHANNESBURG - Taxi drivers and passengers gathered in the Johannesburg central business district on Monday to protest against the Rea Vaya bus system.
Members of the United Taxi Association Front (UTAF) said it was unfair that buses have exclusive use of special lanes in the city.
"We should also, as public transport, as a mode of public transport, share that public transport lane," said UTAF's Sipho Ngwanyana.
"We are also highlighting the tolls."
UTAF also claims Metro Police officers are unfairly targeting taxis and victimising drivers.
The demonstrators are expected to march to the office of Transport MEC Ismail Vadi to hand over a memorandum of demands.
