Madonsela should probe leaked report - Zille

Helen Zille wants Thuli Madonsela to probe her own office to figure out how the report was leaked.

JOHANNESBURG - Western Cape Premier and Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille said on Monday the Public Protector should rather probe her own office over the leaking of a report on a controversial communications contract.

The leaked report apparently found the contract between the provincial government and TBWA/Hunt Lascar was invalid.

It reportedly stated that the contract should be terminated because two of Zille's special advisers should not have been on the bid evaluation committee.

According to Zille's legal team this conclusion was legally flawed.

Zille said she was due to meet with Thuli Madonsela on Thursday when she will be submitting the DA's response to Madonsela's findings.

"We can take it on review to the court if we don't agree with it, as the Public Protector has been taken to the High Court before and had her findings overturned before by the same advocate," said Zille.

"I think it was exactly the same person that wrote the faulty report the last time round."
