PRETORIA - The Tshwane Municipality on Thursday said it has completed a substantial part of its investigation into a senior official in the speaker's office accused of tender fraud.

Mapiti Matsena was suspended in January following allegations of corruption related to a marketing tender of R8 million.

All the municipality will say on record is that Matsena's special leave has served its purpose and allowed it to conduct the investigation.

The city's Nomosonto Ndlovu said the outcome of that probe will soon be released.

In the meantime, Matsena, who is also African National Congress Deputy Chairperson in the region, is back on the job.

Sources said it was an indication that he will not be prosecuted on the charges.

It is unclear if this is because there is no evidence against him, or he is being protected.
