Ministers not panicked over bugging
Siyabonga Cwele denied that ministers' phones were being illegally tapped.
State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele on Thursday said there was no panic among Cabinet members over the bugging of their offices.
Cwele denied ministers phones are being illegally tapped after concerns by Minister Fikile Mbalula, ANC Youth League leaders and opposition members of Parliament.
The country's intelligence structures are facing sharp criticism and the Richard Mdluli saga is but one example.
Cwele said they received regular requests from ministers to sweep their offices for bugs.
He said there is no paranoia in Cabinet over the illegal tapping of phone lines.
"The request for sweeping by our ministers…Are they in a panic mode? No they are not in panic mode. Yet."
The minister denied the intelligence community is being used by political structures ahead of the ANC's elective conference later this year.
