President Jacob Zuma is expected to deliver a eulogy for Roy Padayachie.
DURBAN - Hundreds of mourners streamed into the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban to pay their last respects to Public Service and Administration Minister Roy Padayachie on Wednesday.
Padayachie died this weekend after a long illness while on official duty in Ethiopia.
Family, friends and government officials including Trevor Manuel arrived for the funeral service expected to get underway shortly.
A marque was set up in the middle of the field and the stands are slowly filling up.
President Jacob Zuma is expected to deliver a eulogy later.
Zuma visited Padayachie's widow in Marianhill on Tuesday night and praised the late minister for revitalising the African National Congress in the 1970's.
Zuma said the country had lost a great comrade.
