CAPE TOWN - A massive manhunt is underway for a suspect thought to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Nayati Moodliar.

The 12-year-old Dutch boy, who has South African parents, was snatched outside his school in Kuala Lumpur about two weeks ago.

He was released last Thursday.

Four people have already been arrested and Malaysian police are now searching for a fifth suspect.

The man is thought to have fled the country.

The suspects allegedly went their separate ways after collecting a ransom.

Authorities say when they negotiated the boy's release, they managed to reduce the ransom from R1 million to R700,000.

The Malaysian government said the alleged kidnappers may face the death penalty.

The boy has returned to school and is doing well.
