Molewa worried about EC water
Edna Molewa is concerned about the quality of drinking water in the Eastern Cape.
CAPE TOWN - Water Affairs Minister Edna Molewa expressed her concern about the quality of drinking water in some Eastern Cape municipalities.
Earlier on Monday, she released the Blue Drop Report in Cape Town.
The report assesses the quality of water in South African municipalities.
The country's biggest metros are among the best performing when it comes to providing good quality water to citizens.
Both Gauteng and the Western Cape were the best performing provinces.
In contrast, smaller municipalities in the Eastern Cape are providing water that is not safe to drink.
Molewa said, "Communities have been informed not to drink tap water. They have to boil the water before using it."
The minister will present top performing municipalities with their Blue Drop awards later on Monday.
