HRC to investigate racist tweet
The Human Rights Commission is set to investigate complaints against Jessica Leandra dos Santos.
JOHANNESBURG - The Human Rights Commission is set to investigate complaints laid against model Jessica Leandra dos Santos, in response to racist tweets she posted which caused widespread outrage on social media.
Dos Santos posted an update using the 'k word' about a confrontation she had with a black man in a supermarket.
She initially attempted to defend it by saying she tweeted in anger and was acting against sexual harassment, but has since issued an apology on her blog.
Supplement company Quick Trim SA ended her sponsorship deal with immediate effect while FHM magazine stripped her of her 2011 Model of the Year title.
The magazine's editor Brendan Cooper said, "That kind of moronic racism is not what FHM is about and is not what this country needs."
