Bar council worried over criminal attacks
The General Council of the Bar is concerned about crimes targeting high-profile advocates.
JOHANNESBURG - The General Council of the Bar of South Africa on Friday said it is concerned with the recent spate of crimes targeting high-profile advocates.
In the latest incident, suspended prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach was shot at and forced off the road two weeks ago.
The council said the perpetrators were not ordinary criminals.
Council Chairperson Gerrit Pretorius said National Prosecuting Authority's Laetitia du Plessis had a theft in her Cape Town chamber.
"Anthea Patt, an advocate who sat on the inquiry of [suspended National Commissioner] Bheki Cele had her house robbed and Julius Malema's lawyer Muzi Sikhakhane had a theft at his house."
