CT man dies in shack fire
A Cape Town man was killed when two shacks were gutted on Tuesday morning.
CAPE TOWN - A man died in a shack fire in Khayelitsha on Tuesday morning.
The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage.
Cape Town Disaster Management's Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said two people have been left homeless.
Meanwhile, the Paraffin Association of South Africa said it was bracing itself for an increase in paraffin-related fires.
The association said it was currently running safety awareness campaigns.
The organisation's Ceceal Hector, "We do see that there is an increase in fires in the months of May and September. There is an increase in paraffin related fires."
She said the organisation is also concerned about the number of children who become ill because of paraffin ingestion.
Hector said hospitals are however assisting the organisation with the problem.
