Acting NPA boss Nomgcobo Jiba on Wednesday told Members of Parliament that disciplinary steps taken against a senior prosecutor had nothing to do with her apparent refusal to drop fraud charges against Richard Mdluli.

Advocate Glynnis Breytenbach faces suspension.

She assisted with a fraud case instituted against the SAPS crime intelligence boss.

Jiba emphatically denied there were political orders to halt fraud and murder cases from going ahead against Mdluli.

She also rubbished claims that there was a link between disciplinary proceedings being instituted against Breytenbach, and the withdrawal of charges against Mdluli.

But Jiba would not be drawn on exactly why Breytenbach is being disciplined.

"There is a process that is being followed in so far as disciplinary matters are concerned, like any other employee in the NPA."

However, Jiba has agreed to brief MPs on the order of events that led to Breytenbach being targeted.
