Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele on Friday praised motorists for heeding the call to obey road safety rules.
Ndebele said he was impressed because no major accidents have been reported on the country's roads.
Traffic volumes increased as thousands of motorists made their way to various holiday and religious destinations for the long Easter weekend.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation's Ashraf Ismail said officers continued to monitor the N3 to KwaZulu-Natal, N4 to Mpumalanga and the N1 towards Limpopo.
"There are no major incidents to report. There have been a few crashes but we are still waiting for the statistics."
Transport Department spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso advised motorist who travelled for long distances to be patient and cautious.
"We are going to enforce the rules of the law without exception. People must remember to fasten their seatbelts."
