Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets, with the petrol price set to go up by over 70 cents a litre on Wednesday.
The figure includes the fuel and Road Accident Fund levies set out by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in his 2012 budget.
It also emerged during Friday's announcement that a litre of diesel would cost between 47 and 69 cents more.
The Energy Department Deputy Director General Tshediso Maqubela said it was a tough period for motorists.
"95 octane on the coast will increase by 66 cents, inland by 71 cents. 93 octane will increase by 68 cents from the coast and 73 cents inland. 50ppm diesel will increase by 47.6 cent per litre," he said.
Maqubela attributed the latest hike to the increasing prices in brent crude oil.
