It is not yet clear whether learning and teaching will resume at the Itirele Zenzele Secondary School in Diepsloot on Friday.
This follows two consecutive days of protest action by a group of learners demanding that Principal Magale Masenya be fired.
Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Charles Phahlane said one learner was arrested.
He said the department was investigating claims that Masenya was guilty of maladministration.
"We do not know why the learner was arrested. But we know there is a standing disagreement between the school governing body and the principal."
Phahlane said learning should continue at the school regardless of the conflict.
