Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye's witness has contradicted his sworn statement, state prosecutors said on Thursday.

The hip hop artist and co-accused Themba Tshabalala are facing murder and attempted murder charges after they crashed their Mini Coopers into a group of Soweto school children.

Four people were killed and two others were injured in the crash.

At the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday, witness Tumelo Mokoka took the stand.

He was a passenger in Maarohanye's car during the fatal 2010 accident.

Prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa tried to discredit Mokoka during cross-examination.

In a statement made to police, Mokoka said he saw Tshabalala's Mini Cooper collide into Maarohanye's.

However, Mokoka told the court he only heard a loud bang on the right-hand side of Maarohanye's car.

The trial resumes on Friday.
