Stormers coach Allister Coetzee has said Saturday's loss at Newlands makes his job easier as he prepares to pick his final squad for this season.

The Stormers were beaten 22-14 by the Cheetahs in a pre-season friendly.

Coetzee says the friendly game was to test out new combinations, not necessarily aiming for a win.

"You can see there are players that need a bit of technical work on individual basis. There are players who are definitely there to do well in Super 15 rugby, but there are players who need a one on one coaching and technical work."

Coetzee adds he now has a clearer understanding as to what areas need greater attention.

"I'm pleased to say that there's nothing wrong with the effort and the heart that I've seen. There were few technical errors that we'll work on. I actually got more answers this week than last week."
