A pilot has died in a light aircraft crash in Brits in the North West province.

The 71-year-old pilot was flying alone on Sunday when he developed blurry vision.

He tried to land several times before blacking out and crashing.

Last week a 12-seater plane was forced to land on its belly at Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria after its landing gear malfunctioned.

In November, an Airlink aircraft carrying 72 people was forced to do the same at the OR Tambo International Airport on the East Rand.

Meanwhile, a Bloemfontein pilot was declared brain dead after losing feeling on the left side of his body during a flight.

He managed to land the plane safely before collapsing.
