The death toll from a ferry accident off the coast of Tanzania at the weekend has risen overnight and now stands at over 240.
Dozens of bodies are yet to be identified and hundreds are still missing.
The South African National Defence Force is sending the SAS Mendi to help in the rescue and recovery efforts as well as a search team and psychologists.
The defence force's Ndivuwo Mabaya said, "The SAS Mendi carries with it a link helicopter, it also carries about 100 people inside when it's on full operation. It's one of the best ships that we have in the country."
This Zanzibar tour guide said the allegedly overloaded ferry capsized during a busy travel season in Tanzania, when there is a great demand for transport.
"It's time for festivals and there are lots of weddings going on so people come from Pemba Island to Zanzibar. Parents are also sending their kids to Pemba Island to start school," he said.
