City councillor Grant Pascoe on Wednesday said that rugby at Cape Town Stadium may become a reality in the near future.

Pascoe confirmed the city is in talks with Western Province Rugby Union about bringing the game to the World Cup venue.

On Tuesday Ajax Cape Town signed a three-year deal with the city to secure the use of the stadium for soccer.

Pascoe said they are keen to make rugby part of the mix as well.

"We will assess it year-on-year and then I think going forward we are also looking at some other codes to also come in as well, so that's going to benefit us tremendously. It will up the usage patterns and it will also bring us a variety of codes," he said.
