The South African Football Association (Safa) has launched the SAB U21 Regional League National Championships as part of post-World Cup football development in South Africa.
The week-long contest will feature nine provincial squads and an invitational team from the US.
It will kick off this Sunday, with the opening and closing games played at Eldorado Park and the rest played at the University of Johannesburg's grounds.
Safa's Competitions Committee Chairperson Sam Masitenyane said it is high time football development structures in South Africa are restored.
"Development will be a priority. I think for a long time development in our country has been lagging... behind. We are confident that the players that are taking part in this tournament will also try to emulate some of the international soccer stars that we've seen," he said.
