Special Olympics South Africa chairperson Mathews Phosa on Friday said he does not believe protests in Greece will pose a security risk for the team.
Around 81 South African athletes will take part in the games which start next weekend.
Phosa said the team is a special group of people who have overcome tremendous adversities.
He does not believe the recent protests in Greece will impact the event.
"There is no concern, I think that country's security is very advanced…," said Phosa. "We come from a conflict of greater magnitude ourselves as South Africans [and] that should not scare us."
A general strike was called by Greek trade unions to protest against the adoption of austerity measures by the socialist government.
