Butch James starts at flyhalf for the Lions against the Sharks, in their last Super Rugby match of the season, with Elton Jantjies on the bench for disciplinary reasons.

James' centre position has been taken by Alwyn Hollenbach, who was has not been playing.

Mitchell said Jantjies has been benched due to a discipline issue while on tour.

"Basically Elton broke team protocol while we were away... he missed an appointment," Mitchell explained.

He refused to comment about sexual assault charges allegedly involving one of the players while the team was on tour.

"I've got no comment to make, you're wasting your time it's all over… it didn't affect us at all," he said.

In the forwards the Lions have reverted to the pack that was originally named to face the Hurricanes before Cobus Grobbelaar returned home because of a family bereavement.

At lock, Franco van der Merwe is expected to play after sustaining an eye injury last Saturday.

Mitchell said he is confident Van der Merwe will recover in time to face the Sharks.
