Zimbabwe's police chief on Wednesday said that those who killed an officer on Sunday will die by the sword.
Police arrested 15 people linked to the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) on charges of murder.
But Morgan Tsvangirai's party said beer-drinkers, not party members, were behind the violence.
Police Chief Augustine Chihuri said the police force is being decimated by "uncouth opposition political elements."
Speaking at funeral of Petros Mutedza, he said those who live by the sword will die by the sword.
Mutedza was stoned to death by drinkers at a township bar, but there are fears this incident will be used to justify a massive clampdown on the MDC.
