A Soweto school principal who was placed on precautionary suspension after he allegedly assaulted a pupil was expected back in court on Friday.

The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) said the Meadowlands High school principal Moss Senye, was informed of his suspension earlier this week.

An acting principal was appointed and will start work on Monday.

GDE’s Charles Phahlane said the department does not want to comment on the merits of the case at this stage.

“The matter is sub judice. Mr. Senye enjoys the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise. We therefore urge all parties to respect the legal and administrative processes and to continue with learning and teaching," said Phahlane.
