The Hawks believe they may have rounded up all the members of a dangerous cash vault robbery syndicate after an arrest this weekend.

Wanted fugitive Samson Malapane was caught at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg after coincidentally sitting next to a law enforcement officer during a soccer game. Police had been searching for Malapane for two weeks.

He appeared in court on Monday and was released on bail as he waits to hear his fate in a separate murder case.

Hawks’ McIntosh Polela said, “As far as we know we’ve got everybody behind bars, but obviously the investigation is not closed.”

The syndicate allegedly broke into cash vaults at chain stores, banks, fuel stations and cash depots in three provinces.

Among those in custody was an army corporal involved in the syndicate.
