A convicted drug mule has called on government to raise awareness around the consequences of smuggling, after yet another South African was arrested abroad.
The woman was caught at Auckland Airport in New Zealand after having swallowed over half a kilogramme of pure crystal methamphetamine.
After police questioned her, they arrested another South African and a Nigerian who have both been released on bail.
Brigene Young spent almost eight years in jail in Mauritius for smuggling drugs.
The 28-year-old said young people need to be made aware of the harsh realities of becoming a drug mule.
“You have got to get to the younger generation so that even before they can get to the stage where they are wiling to do something like this, they won’t even think about it,” she said.
