The wife of former Proteas cricketer Andre Nel on Monday said she will stand by her husband amid claims he cheated on her with at least three other women and then tried to kill himself.

Deanne Weitz has been married to Nel for the last six years and is currently pregnant with his child. She has declined to comment on reports about Nel’s apparent suicide bid last week.

“I can just tell you that Andre has hit rock bottom. He is lower than any person could be in life and he is in a very bad place," said Weitz.

Meanwhile, former Proteas coach Ray Jennings, who has worked closely with Nel on the domestic cricket scene, said Nel is in need of all the help he can get.

“I am deeply concerned and I have spoken to him and indicated to him that if there is anything I can do to assist him in anyway because many people around do not know him as well as I do. He is a lovable guy and a genuine teddy bear off the field,” said <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Jennings.
