A British tabloid journalist has appeared in a World Cup court in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Cape Town for his alleged involvement in the English locker room security breach after England’s match against Algeria at Cape Town Stadium.

Simon Wright from The Daily Mirror was arrested at <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Cape Town<placename w:st="on">International<placetype w:st="on">Airport just hours before his court appearance.

Cele said the security breach by soccer fan Pavlos Joseph was well-planned.

He said Wright admitted to harbouring and interviewing Joseph while the police were searching for him.

Wright, who was charged with defeating the ends of justice and breaching the immigration act, will appear in court again on Wednesday.
