Pope Benedict the 16th apologised to the victims of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests in Ireland.

In a letter, released by the Vatican, he says the Church feels shame and remorse.

He also says those guilty of abuse must answer for their crimes.

The letter was read out by the head of the Catholic church in Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady.
