Angry Balfour residents on Thursday demanded that Cooperative Governance Minister Sicelo Shiceka suspend municipal officials immediately.
The minister and Public Protector Thuli Madonsela met community leaders on Thursday.
The troubled township has witnessed violent protests recently with locals calling for the mayor to be fired.
Nomvula Maya, whose husband was allegedly assaulted by police during protests last week, asked Shiceka to scrap the council.
“I am begging the minister to suspend all the people who are working at the municipality, even the councillors,” said Maya.
