Ekurhuleni Mayor Ntombi Mekgwe said on Wednesday her municipality was working closely with the Gauteng Housing Department to relocate people whose homes were swept away in flash flooding in Tembisa.
Mekgwe visited the family of a woman who drowned with her eight-month-old child following this week’s heavy rains.
Dozens of other residents lost their homes and were seeking temporary shelter while they rebuild their houses.
Mekgwe urged people who live in informal settlements to be more careful when choosing land to build their shacks.
