The owners of a popular Italian eatery in Sunninghill are counting the costs after a fire ravaged the property on Sunday. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Two people were injured when the Da Vincenzo restaurant caught fire and firefighters battled for hours to control the blaze.

Debris salvaged from the popular eatery lay strewn outside as the restaurant smoldered a short distance away.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but that did little to console the owner as he was escorted from the scene.

The smell of burnt thatch was pungent as officials worked to douse any live embers - for fear of a repeat of the devastating fire.
