The organisation representing construction companies says its members are working on tabling a new offer to present to employees this week. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors ( SAFCEC) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have been embroiled in a bitter dispute over wages in recent weeks.
NUM is demanding a 15 percent wage increase, but SAFCEC has offered 8.5 percent up until now.
The firm’s Joe Campanella says construction on all 2010 World Cup stadia will continue despite the dispute not having been resolved.
“Both unions have been very responsible with their membership. To date and we very grateful for that and until such time as the strike action is properly declared, work must continue and has been continuing with out any problem at all,” Campanella commented.
