Ekurhuleni City Manager Patrick Flusk was officially fired on Tuesday.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The metro council said Flusk agreed to terminate his employment after countless allegations of underperformance were levelled against him.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Ntombi Mekgwe said the former city manager undermined her authority.

"The contract of the city manager has been terminated with immediate effect," said Mekgwe.

Gauteng Local Government MEC Qedani Mahlangu said a new team of six managers would take over the running of the council which will be led by the acting municipal manager.

The Democratic Alliance’s Eddie Cross said opposition parties were not happy with the decision to bring in outsiders to run the council.

He added Flusk’s underperformance was to be blamed on the mayor, calling on Mekgwe and her team to resign.
