Cricket South Africa says hosting the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy will be feather in its cap.
South Africa is set to host the tournament in September after it was moved from initial hosts Pakistan last year due to security concerns.
Sri Lanka was then chosen to hold the event but that decision was reconsidered owing to rainy conditions forecast for the duration of the showpiece.
CSA’s chief executive Gerald Majola says the country must be happy over the achievement.
“As Africans we should be proud of this, of what we have done and that everybody else knows that we will be the country do it for the ICC.“
The competition is set to take place at the end of September - this means there is around six months to make sure everything is up to scratch.
Majola says he is confident everything will go off smoothly.
“We have run events bigger than this and we believe that we will be able host this event properly. Logistically we have fields, we have the capability of doing it resources-wise and the ICC will be sending staff to support us.”
