Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile says Gautrain will become the backbone of an integrated public transport system across the province.

Mashatile opened the <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Gauteng Legislature on Monday and said that in the last five years the economy had grown from strength to strength.

“Unemployment in <place w:st="on"><state w:st="on">Gauteng dropped from a peak of 30.4% in September 2001 to 19.5% in September 2007."

“I am pleased to announce that to date, we have created 53 000 jobs."
