The safety and security ministry says it will not buy into politicking and mudslinging ahead of the up-coming elections.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The announcement follows Congress of the People leader Mosiuoa Lekota’s declaration that he will take Safety and Security Minister Nathi Mthethwa to court.

The threat follows Mthethwa’s withdrawal of his security detail for a second time two weeks ago.

Ministry spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said Lekota was making idle threats to draw attention ahead of the elections.

Lesufi said they were caught by surprise but would not be drawn into dirty politics ahead of elections.

He said Lekota must respect the minister despite political affiliations or differences.

Lesufi added that Lekota had not approached Mthethwa in person.

The ministry said it hoped to resolve the issue before moving to the courtroom.
