At least a hundred people were injured when two Metrorail trains collided between Springs and New Era on the <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><place w:st="on">East Rand.

Metro police are on the scene to assist officials in evacuating passengers but the cause of the accident is unclear.

“There is definitely two trains that have collided it looks pretty bad, people have just gone out of the trains now, there are people on the floor. I am not sure if they are injured because I cannot get close,” said one witness.

Metrorail’s Sibusiso Ngomane said officials were trying to establish how many people were hurt.

“We don’t have reports at this stage as to how many people are injured, the accident happened now at about half past five we still trying to establish how many people are injured if any."

It is the second train collision in <state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Gauteng.

On Monday, 11 people, including two pregnant women, were rushed to hospital after a train collision in Lenasia.

Over 100 people were treated on the scene.
