It is understood the man allegedly started communicating with a 14-year-old girl on social networking service Mxit.

The Child Protection Unit found that he had been sending lewd text messages to the teenager and an officer from the unit responded to the messages, posing as her.

After several weeks of investigations, officers swooped in on the man’s Glenhazel home on Sunday.

“As an organisation we are extremely pleased that the Sexual Offences Act is really being implemented so quickly after it’s been passed,” said Women and Men against Child Abuse’s Miranda Friedman.
