The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu Natal has called for action to be taken against Safety MEC Bheki Cele for allegedly using the police force to attack opposition supporters.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

At the same time, Cele is taking legal action against the IFP for publicly accusing him of pointing a weapon at supporters in Nongoma on Sunday.

Violence flared in the region at the weekend with a senior African National Congress member and two relatives being shot and several buses carrying ANC supporters being stoned.

The IFP’s Zelaphi Ndlovu accused Cele of waving his gun at protesters.

“We urge the ANC to make sure that they take steps against Bheki Cele of what he has done yesterday.”

Cele slammed the allegations and said he would take legal action against his accusers.

“The IFP is playing a very dangerous game of going to such a dangerous propaganda.”

The verbal spat between the two sides has escalated as both the ANC and IFP agree it is up to political leaders to take control of the situation.
