The Johannesburg Roads Agency has warned motorists to avoid <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?><street w:st="on"><address w:st="on">New Canada Road in the western part of the city.

Officials said the road was dangerously flooded as rains continued to fall in parts of <state w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Gauteng.

Authorities were on high alert for possible flash flooding on Wednesday.

Several roads in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">Johannesburg were submerged.

“A whole section of the road underneath the railway line is flooded, motorists had to turn back. This has created a bit of chaos to traffic,” said the JRA’s CC Mackay.
