The leader of the Democratic Alliance has accused the ruling party of rewarding criminals by putting them on party nomination lists.

The DA unveiled the names of its prospective candidates for the up-coming general elections at Parliament on Sunday.

The DA’s Helen Zille said she would propose a law to ensure criminals could not be placed on nomination lists.

Zille reiterated her distress that corruption within in the ruling party was being accommodated and normalised.

“The ANC runs a closed crony process. So you have a small little group of insiders, all looking after each other, who look after themselves, and then they only allow people through the cracks in the doors if they are sure that those people will support and bolster the group of insiders,” said Zille.
