Eyewitnesses who claim police assaulted a woman outside an East Rand nightclub last week are calling for tough action against the officers.

Metro police raided The Doors nightclub in Edenvale on Friday night.

A woman who could not produce her identity document was escorted to a waiting police van but witnesses said that she was pulled out of the van by a group of female officers who proceeded to assault her.

She sustained a fractured skull and was released without being charged.

The incident was recorded on a cell phone but officers allegedly assaulted the cellphone owner and deleted the video.

A woman who witnessed the incident said she was completely shocked.

“The x-rays say that she has got a fractured skull. She also has sustained severe bruising and she is taking this further herself as well. She has got a lawyer who is taking this case up now.”

It was just so scary. These are young girls. You know 19, 20 year old girls. Police officers [were] just beating this girl up. It was a shock, like I have never seen something like this before. I have heard about it, but I have never actually seen this. It was a shock, said the eyewitness.”
